Imagine this: you walk through the door into a dimly lit room with the glow of a diffuser filled with lavender essential oil and relaxing music playing. You are then handed a cold, eucalyptus towel to refresh your hands or face. You pour a glass of wine, grab a few snacks and settle into a cozy spot on the couch. You put on your complimentary fuzzy socks while enjoying intentional conversation with other women. When the night is over, your skin is glowing, your body is relaxed and your cup is full.
I don’t know about you but if you invite me to put on cozy clothes and come over for good food, wine, quality skincare, and fellowship with other women (all childless for the night).. I AM THERE.
Three years ago I hosted my first ladies spa night, and it was a hit. So I have been hosting one at least once yearly ever sense. It is so special to invite a group of women to come over in their comfiest clothes, with no makeup, not having to perform or do anything but to relax and be refreshed.
In fact, I’ve always felt uncomfortable mixing my friend groups (maybe you can relate) but with a spa night, it just works. And everyone enjoys the new company and no frills. Not to mention there is something so disarming about no one wearing makeup.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I want to share with you how to host the perfect ladies spa night!
What are the key elements of a spa night?
Food, fellowship, facials. BOOM. We can all go home now. Kidding.. I’m not going to leave ya hanging!
Food
Consider planning “themed” snacks ahead of time. You can do heavier hors d’oeuvres like a charcuterie board with meats, cheeses and fruits, or just go all in with bite sized desserts and treats. Women are grazers, so they don’t typically commit to a full plate at events. But they will come back for seconds, and if they’re like me, thirds. Which is why a charcuterie board is a great option!
A festive and fancy option perfect for Valentine’s Day is a chocolate fountain! If you don’t have a chocolate fountain lying around like me, you can use a fondue set. A set of kabob skewers work perfectly for dipping strawberries, grapes, marshmallows, or whatever your heart desires.
For drinks, sparkling wine, hot tea, valentine’s themed mocktails, or a good Cab (here’s my favorite) will be a hit. But keep it simple! You don’t need to play bartender all night. You’re supposed to relax and enjoy too!
Fun Tip: get festive sprinkles (like white and pink hearts) for your guests to sprinkle on their dipped treats. It adds an unexpected and delicious crunch to your fruit!
Fellowship
When it comes to activities other than the skincare component, I recommend keeping it SIMPLE. It’s likely that many of your guests are mothers or had a busy day, so they will thoroughly enjoy the relaxing and silence (or actual adult conversation).
I always set up my favorite portable shoulder massager on a chair along with a few DIY beauty recipe books for my guests to peruse and enjoy.
Another great idea is to have these Find Your People question cards on a table to encourage intentional 1-1 conversation. I also love these question cards you can print and cut out from IF:gathering. You can also opt to have a little nail bar with a few nail polishes and manicure essentials!
Depending on your group, you might enjoy a built in time to share a word of encouragement, or open the floor for others to share how they have been doing in this season of life. When the makeup comes off, the guards come down, ya know?
Facials + Skincare Routine
I am convinced that a good skincare routine is not only amazing for the health of your skin and body, but for your mind too! It is relaxing and rejuvenating and the perfect reset after your day.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a skincare expert to host a spa night! All you need are the basic steps and skincare essentials. You can totally buy product for your event, but you can 100% make your own of many of these too!
In case you don’t know, these are the 4 basic skincare steps:
Cleanse
Optional: steam
Exfoliate
Tone
Moisturize
For spa nights, I love including my facial steamer to open the pores! If you don’t have a facial steamer, you can make a DIY steam pot on your stove.
All you will need is a bathroom, mirror, face towels and the products of your choice. I find it easiest to let the guests do the routine whenever they want, that way the bathroom only has a few people in it at once! This is also included in the spa night graphics and printable for you to customize as needed:
- Put a pump of cleanser into your palm and massage into your face in circular motions to cleanse. Rinse off.
- Optional: Put your face over the facial steam pot for 30 seconds to relax and open your pores.
- Put a teeny bit of the charcoal mask (or a DIY bentonite clay face mask) on your finger and place a thin layer on your face. Let dry for 5-10 minutes and rinse off with a wash cloth.
- Add witch hazel to a cotton pad and use in an upwards motion over your face.
- Place 5-7 drops of blue tansy face serum (I make this myself) in your palm and massage onto your face to finish up your evening skincare routine.
Other than the skincare products, be sure to have these as well:
- Makeup remover wipes or oil
- Cotton pads (for toner)
- Plenty of face towels
Here are few of my ride-or-die, favorite products if you want to use for your skincare night!
Charcoal Face Mask (my favorite EVER)
Eucalyptus + Lavender Body Butter
Takeaway Gift for your guests
I love a GOOD parting gift from a party. But it’s totally up to you! Here are a few ideas for what you can give in a cute little muslin pouch or gift bag:
- Essential oil perfume roller in pretty glass roller
- Fuzzy socks
- DIY Floral Body Oil
- Face Mask

I hosted a Spa Night about a year and a half ago and have been dying to do another one since! The Hello Glow book was my inspiration…I tried to DIY as much as I could (a couple different mask options, lip scrub, lip balm, etc) and then since the recipes made so much, I sent sample containers home with everyone in attendance (along with a bag of diy shower bombs) so they could pamper themselves a little more at home! This has also become a go-to for me when I have overnight guests…not nearly as “put together” but offering some nice facial cleanser/scrub, steamed towels, a mask, and glow serum while we cozy up and chat in the living room just ads a little something to our time together!
